Help for a potential beginner

Hello everyone.

I am interested in taking a crack at building my own RC sub but have no previous model building experience. I am technically and mechanically inclined and good with my hands. Can anyone recommend any kits, books, etc. that would help me get started.

I would really like to start my learning by doing. So if anyone can recommend a good first project, I would really appreciate it.
