U-Boat primer paint colors??

Hi,

I've just taken delivery of my (first) Revell 1/72 Type VIIc kit, and would like to depict Herbert Werner's U-230 as she appeared when they sewed mines in Chesapeake Bay in the summer of 1943. My question is, what color(s) was the primer paint used on U-Boats in the French ports? I'd like to depict some paint chipping so commonly seen around the conning tower, but I need to know what color it was.
