The following address had a painting regulation for U-boats, dated March 1940 -

In this document, it is stated that two coats of special quick-drying red lead was to be used as a primer. In general, red lead is roughly red-brown or so.
U 230 had the FuMO 29 radar antennas at one stage in its career. This was a double row of dipoles on the upper half of the conning tower. (see first page of second photo section in Iron Coffins by Herbert A. Werner) I don't know whether this was in place during the summer of 1943.
