Wonderful Maciek! Thank you. This helped me to make up my mind whether or not to open the lower vents on my model.
I have concluded that, given a full fuel load when she sailed, U297 would not have used all the oil in even a single tank after 12 days snorkelling/submerged.
I'll be leaving the vents closed.
