Calculating firing solutions, how?

Hi everyone,

I am trying to reconstruct the procedures used by the german U-Boat crews of WW2 to set up the firing solutions to shoot torpedoes against enemy vessels. I have been researching a lot in the internet, and the information is very elusive or incomplete, so I wanted to ask if someone can clarify (And provide links or pictures) following points:

1.- How did they get the data like range to target? I know the scopes had telemeters, and the germans used recognition manuals, but was that the main and/or only method?

2.- Which formulas and procedures where used to determine target speed and angle on the bow (Lage or gamma in torpedo firing reports)? I have created templates for a german wiz wheel from WW2 that is actually on display in the Royal Submarine Museum, and it seems the main use of it was determining target's true course based on AOB estimation, as well as an intercepting course. But I don't have specific info about other slide rulers, procedures and such.

I have seen diarys from U-Boots where the kaleun noted that he had spotted such and such ship at precise ranges, courses, and speeds...how did he determine that range and course?
