Hi,
Looking some information I found your website, and I see that you are experts on this field, so I hope you could help me.
I'm doing a work on a material's selection for a submarine's design, in an engineering way.
First of all, I have to take into account what forces are applied on the structure (I can simplify it, of course). Obviously, there are some hydrostatic pressure that I can calculate it with the general equation (p=p0+rho·g·h).
I calculate it for, e.g., 2000m depth, and I had a pressure of 20,26MPa.
So, the structure is under an applied compression of 20,26MPa (that I think is low).
Obviously, the material of the pressure hull has to be very strong and stiffness. But I calculate a compression of 20,26MPa, and there are a lot of materials that could put up with a compression of 20MPa...
So, what I'm doing wrong?
There are other forces that I have to take into account?
Thanks for your help.
