Hi Robert,
On the Type VII U-Boat there was no source for steam heating onboard and that is because the water boiler heating source was at the harbor. The hookup was on the port or starboard side of the U-Boat near a small access door in the aft casing.
The steam heating installation was fitted in the early wartime U-Boats and abandoned (1941) by the mid-years of the war.
