Can anyone tell me why the longitudenal bulkhead in the control room section of the Type VII was concave? I was re-reading Stern's "Type VII U-boats" this morning and was looking at the schematics of the various sections of the boats. The only answer that I can think of was that it allowed for increased fuel bunkerage. Or perhaps there is a structural reason for the odd shape?
