Hi Roy
The tuned RF stage ahead of the mixer would indeed act as a blocking filter. Not being familiar with the details of the construction of the Metox receiver, I am wondering if stray capacitance and a certain amount of oscillator energy getting by on things like the plate supply wiring, ground wires, etc. might have tended to bypass the tuned RF stage. A great deal of shielding,extensive line filtering, and carefull grounding would have been required to suppress the oscillator energy.What do think?
