Hi les
funky?
what do you mean with funky?
At what type of subs do you refer?(ie.SS,SSB,SSG,SSN,SSGN,SSBN,SSQ,SSQN,SSR,SSRN,SST)
I´ll refer to SSN
All russian subs you can see today were designed during soviet period.
The soviets were pioneers and world leaders in subs hydrodynamic shape R+D.,and submarine hull construction.
They produced the fastest submarines up today.
They produced the deepest diving submarine up today.
They are near to get for their subs the quietness of the US ones.
When you see marine mammal shapes you would say they looks like a US sub shape rather than a soviet one?
They were investigating several dolphins spices motion efficiency and biology in order to build more hydrodynamic shapes and apply them to their subs.
Western intelligence suspects that they also apply polymers technology in their
hulls in order to reduce dragging.
Do you realize how their connig towers are faired into the hull?
Do you think that square shape conning tower of US subs are hydrodynamic?
When on surface they are more bulky that US ones, because most of them are of
double hull construction, and this gives them more buoyancy reserve.
Double hull construction also has some combat tactical advantages. They are less
vulnerable to torpedo impacts that those with single hull.
Best regards.
