Hi,
The main RN subs of the war were the S and T class, I have complied there vital statistics into a table so we can compare them with the VIIC. Depth data was not available for the British subs, but I take it that it was inferior to the VIIC. I did not undertstand the presentation of displacement in the Uboat.net page for VIIC so I have not included it. The VIIC has the edge in speed on the surface, but the British subs are faster underwater. As for range, I am not sure how to convert nautical miles to miles, but the S and VIIC were not intended to true Ocean goign use, whereas the T was. The single biggest advantage that the British subs have in six tubes in the bow - seriously indreasing fire power and chances to scoring a hit.
S- class Group 1 T-Class Group 2 VIIC
Displacement surf: 735 1325 tons
Displacement dive: 935 1580 tons
Dimensions: 65 x 7.6 x 87.5 x 8.5 x 67.1 x 6.2
13 m 5.2 m x 9.6 m
Complement: 36 59 44-52
Propulsion surfaced: 1550 hp 2500hp 3200 hp
Propulsion dived: 1300 hp 1450hp 750 hp
Speed surfaced: 14 knots 15 knots 17 knots
Speed dived: 10 knots 9 knots 7 knots
Range: 3750 nm 8000 nm 8500 miles
Torpedo tubes: 6 bow 6 int. 2 ext. bow, 2 ext. beam 4 bow/1 stern
Gun: 3 inch 4 inch 88 mm
