Thanks for the information on “diving depthâ€. I do think it is a rather common mis-perception that WW II US subs couldn’t dive much below 300 feet. This is obviously incorrect as it pertains to the later classes as you and others have pointed out.
Some time ago in a past posting, (it might have been by Superkraut) the statement was made that the U-boats were pressure tested in a tank before delivery. I have never heard of this practise or been able to find any information relative to “pressure testing submarines in a tankâ€. Can you or others who may be following this thread ( maybe joe brandt or kurt have somthing ) offer any information on this subject of pressure testing a complete submarine hull in a tank ?
