Hello Javier Dropez,
I have the hardback edition. This is very interesting. I wish I had my bloody material with me but had no room in the bags for the good stuff!!!!!. I am still a seacadet with the Battle of the Atlantic. I was into the major land battles and the German Panzertruppen.
I do remember the point about the DC settings in June of 1943. For a while I do believe the British DC settings were around 550 ft. Then they began to tinker with the depth settings but I don\\\'t know when!!!!!!!. One suggestion is that the crews of individual ships at different times might have began adjusting the depths themselves unoffically. The theory behind this idea is that individual U-boats did their own torpedo experiments and reported thier findings to HQ. Why not British crews with their DCs?
Do you know when allied escourt ships could calculate the depth of U-boats with their asidic? This might have helped them with the depth setting experiments as well as the capture of the U-570. Was the capture of U-570 and the depth experiments kept classified for a while or was the info released right away? I hope these questions can be a starting point that leads down a clear path!!! This is a mystery indeed!!!!
Goodluck and Good Hunting!!!
