AA and diving

Hi all,

I certainly enjoy the relatively calm seas of the T&O forum. General Discussions is a bit of a mess as of late.

I have a question that I have been unable to answer in my research.

How were the various AA weapons prepared for diving and firing? It would seem that some method was necessary to protect them from the sea water, and ammunition had to be kept dry. It would also seem that any involved procedure would inhibit diving speed as the crew needed to get below quickly.

On the other hand, I\'ve read of actions when u-boat crews quickly manned their guns upon surfacing to fight it out with an escort or aircraft. Evidently the process to get the weapons ready to fire was not so involved as to significantly delay the crews. So what was the process?

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Tom
