Trim adjustments

This is one of those physics questions...

I understand that during a voyage, the cook had to keep an accurate record of provisions used so that the boats trim could be adjusted during diving.
However when say 50 men have eaten, the weight of the food consumed is still on board (in the stomachs of the men!). Obviously there must have been some adjusting factor due to natural body functions getting rid of the food but it seems an interesting formula.

Perhaps the weight is only deducted from the boat after say 2 days later.

Any thoughts?
