What about the Surcouf??
Interestingly I have been reading the technical assesments of the Type XXI which were made before Operation Deadlight.
Basically they state that while the design was good the build quality was dangerously if suicidally poor. Even simple things like valves and taps were made of such poor quality metal, that they were considered very unsafe by the RN.
