The transmitter for VLF was DAC/DAS on about 14kc/s (14 khz nowadays) This extremely powerful transmitter could be copied could while submerged. The only trouble was GBR Rugby Radio in England was on 16 kcs and with the receivers we had in those days it was a work of art to copy one and not the other. The receivers lacked selectivity. Fraid I don't know the frequencies used for hf. Some "homing signals" were sent around 400kcs for uboats close in. Best wishes Roy
