screw question (no sex!!)

Hi all,

When a ship has 2 screws, one turns left and the other turns right. When I look at the different forces on the screw-blades, every force that is not in the axial direction has a counterforce. This leafs only 1 force, being backwards so that the boat is moved forwards. (make any sense??).

Why will a boat with only 1 screw drift a little. When a boat has 2 screws, one turns left and the other turns right, why is this??

Thank you in advance.

William
