Your comment on science of prop pitching reminds me of an article on the development of the Mk24 Fido. The designers needed a prop for their little beast so they went to David Taylor Model Basin with their problem. The resident GURU asked a few questions, squinted his eyes, and issued a pronouncement. Subsequent testing of the prop design he recommended showed it to be right on and it never changed right on into production.
