Hi folks.
I am researching the industry and organisation that kept the U-boats going. It is easy to find out who built a boat, but who did the fitting out? Were any bits of equipment installed by companies other than the builder? What yards did which maintenance jobs? Were boats sent to specialist yard for particular repairs be they normal wear or battle damage?
I have a list of prodicers of the primary components, ie steel, motors, batteries, and optics.
I also have a KTB for a boat and the first part deals with her life from commissioning to her being ready for combat. Various tests needed to be carried out for her acceptance trials, what did these tests entail? Which authority was responsible for what part of the trials. she went from yard to yard with exercises in between but no detail of these procedures has been detailed.
If anyone can help I would be most grateful.
Sincerely, Brad Golding
