Hello,

I was reading in Ritschel's first KTB volume about U 34. On entry reads something like this when translated to English:

"Sep. 14, 1939 BE 3690 - Submarine conning tower sighted, Dived immediately. UTES given, no reply."

What is UTES? Some kind of underwater communication system?
