Hi Leo,
There were two basic types of propulsion used in German U-boat torpedoes during WWII. Etos were battery powered. Atos were older and more complicated. See Joe Brandt’s excellent answer to my question about Atos at: [www.uboat.net].
Other types of propulsion were experimented with but I don’t think any of them were deployed in significant numbers.
