Guppy II's with series battery line-up on the half-hour discharge rate, and with a clean bottom, could make 18 knots submerged. Schratz claims "microseconds" to reach the surface from 500 feet. You know it has to be a bit more than that--perhaps 10 seconds to get the bow out of the water but not much more. 18 knots, 72 degree up angle breaking surface with the forward group blown dry, wouldn't take long at all.
