RESCUE AND SALVAGE

Hello all:

Did the Kreigsmarine have submarine rescue vessels similar to the U.S. Navy's
ASRs (Auxiliary Submarine Rescue)? How about submarine salvage vessels?

Did the U-boats have a compartment air salvage capability? Use any sort of
rescue chamber for use with a "bottomed" boat? In the diagrams of various U-boats
I have never seen an "escape trunk" either forward or aft. Were escape trunks
provided? How was the "Draeger" device used?

Puzzled.......
