Hi Dave
They were both part of the B3 Ocean Escort Group by Feb 42. Aconit was originally with the Canadian C1 EG. There was a third FF corvette in the B3 group - FF Lobelia. The blue and yellow checkerboard was indeed the insignia of the B3 group on the funnel. The insignia design was created by the first B3 commander, A.J. Baker-Cresswell who included it on his destroyer HMS Bulldog (which captured the first Enigma machine and code books, aided by the Flower Class Corvette HMS Aubretia, in May 1941). In naval signalling blue and yellow squares signify the number 3
