Margaree formerly HMS Diana

My friend's father served in HMS Diana during WW2 and I am trying to find information for her. I have discovered that HMS Diana H49 was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy as HMCS Margaree on 6 September 1940, but am puzzled about this. I would have thought Britain needed every available ship at that time. Sadly, I see the Margaree was lost the following month after being involved in a collision in the Atlantic. Any information about HMS Diana's time in the Far East during the early stages of the War, would be greatly appreciated.
