Diana was completed in December 1932 and was initially sent to the Mediterranean, as part of the 1st Destroyer Flotilla, based at Malta, along with the other D class ships.

In 1934 she recommissioned and the D class deployed to the Far East where she remained until 1939. In November of that year they returned to the Med. and in December Diana returned to the UK, escorting the battleships Barham and Dunkerque from Gibraltar to the Clyde. In Feb. 1940 she was part of the 3rd DF and involved in the Norwegian campaign in May 1940. She was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy in September 1940 (along with the Decoy) but was sunk the following month after a collision.

There is no reason to be puzzled by the transfer - remember Canada was in the war as well, and was providing the western Atlantic cover to convoys and badly short of escorts - they had already lost one destroyer, the Fraser in June 1940
