HM Submarine Oswald

My uncle, William(Bill)Chaff was one of only 3 people who died on this Sub.in 1940. He left a wife, Dorothy and baby son David George Chaff. All my relatives are dead now, but I remember hearing his wife and son were out living in the Med area at that time and that they were then shipped back to UK. Does anyone have any info on what could have happened? It is believed she met an Australian serviceman on this ship, later married him and emigrated to Australia - area around Blue Mountains.
