Many of the USA's Oilers were fast ships, well faster than subs at any rate. Many of them were slower ships. Most of the losses came in the Kanawha Class:
USS Kenawha lost 08-04-43
USS Neches lost 23-01-42
USS Pecos lost 01-03-42
These ships were at best capable of 14 knots. The were sunk in the Pacific War. One by a Japanese Sub, and two by Japanese aircraft.
