My Father, Donald L Smith was employed by Furness Withy Ltd from 1929 to 1974 when he retired. He worked in the New York office on Whitehall Street as a Vice President and local director. He took me on the QOB for the first time April 1959 and enjoyed it very much. He also would take me in with him on Saturdays to eat lunch on either the QOB or the OM whichever ship was in port that day. It was a thrill to see it sail from Pier 95 with all the glamor attached to a typical sailing day of that time.
Unfortunately, he passed away in 1976. I am hopeful that there is someone out there in e-mail land that remembers him and I am looking forward to hearing from them.
Regards,
Donald M smith
