My father served on HMS Swiftsure from commissioning until the ship returned to the UK after the war. He passed away in 2005. He had a lot of photographs from his time in Japan, in particular of the ruins of Nagasaki. He had a camera that he took everywhere and he developed contact prints in a bucket in his mess deck. I believe that the ship entered Nagasaki about 6 weeks after the bomb, as part of the occupation force. He spoke to me infrequently about the things he saw there (it was difficult to get him to talk about it). He did collect several items from the ruins, such as melted bowls and a roof tile. I have a vase he picked up, and I am aware of several fused sake bowls he took back to the UK. I have part of his collection, the rest he sent back to a HMS Swiftsure Museum collection in the UK.
