<HTML>Tony,
The standard German torpedo of WWI was the G/6. In its submarine and destroyer/torpedo boat version, the G/6 AV, it was:
50cm in diamter (19.7 inches), 600cm in length (about 19 feet, 8 inches), an alcohol-powered salt-water pre-heater with a range of 5 nautical miles at 27 knots. The warhead weighed 160kg.
The designation K, KI, and KII were used for the submarine versions of the G/6.
A longer range paraffin/steam version of the G/6 also existed, the G/6 D. The G/7 was a longer (and even longer-ranged) of the G/6D with a larger warhead.
At time U-boats also carried older 45cm torpedoes for use in their 50cm torpedo tubes. These were used against selected merchant ship targets.
best wishes,
Michael</HTML>
