Yes, it's the same Robert M. Grant, who also taught divinity at the University of Chicago. He's alive and well (or was as of November, when I last reason to exchanged e-mails with him).

Earliet this year, Innes McCartney's publishing company, Periscope Publishing, put out Grant's third book "U-Boat Hunters: Code Breakers, Divers and the Defeat of the U-Boats, 1914-1918." The new attribution is from that.

The May 8th radio intercepts are listed as being on May 4 in "U-Boat Hunters."

As for the claim that UB 119 sank a steamer on May 25th, not show loss is listed in "Lloyd's War Losses." Indeed, there are no unexplained cases of ships sunk in UB 119's patrol area in May 1918. (That one's my research.)
