HMS Lilac was a 1200 ton, Acacia class (fleet sweeping) sloop. She would have been used as a convoy escort in 1918, thoug they were also capable of minesweeping. I am not aware of any U-boat related damage being inflicited on HMS Lilac but given the state of our knowldge there's a small chance that there's something that's been overlooked to date.
Have you ruled the flu as a cause of death?
