That's correct Nick, the entire crew was saved by the drifters on the scene. In fact, she was sunk less than because of gunfire than accidental flooding due to the conning tower hatch not properly closed when crash diving to escape. Water expanded massively in the batteries compartment causing shut down of electrical devices and gave off chlorine gas. Krech had no other choice to blow off the tanks, surface and scuttle his boat.
