MPC,

Sorry in advance for butting in on something that may be off-topic, but the comment on the London born U-boat commander sparked a question;

In the HBO series Band of Brothers (If there is a God, this won't bring back the ghost of Clive of India), based on the book by Stephen Ambrose, there was a scene where one of the American soldiers came across a group of German prisoners (the Lt. Spiers legend) and one of them grew up near this soldier, but had moved back to Germany with his family to 'help defend the fatherland'. Was this a real program of the Germans, and if so, were there any U-boat men (officer or enlisted) born and/or raised in the U.S. (or any other of the Allies for that matter)?
