Hi Clio,

at 10:01 a.m. S.M. U 79 (Rohrbeck) fired his last torpedo from bow at a range of 600 meters which struck the DRAKE amidships. The torpedo hit the boiler room and damaged the rudder. Captain Radcliffe tried to reach port of Rathlin Island. On that way the cruiser collided with the steamer MENDIP RANGE who managed to beach in Ballycastle Bay. HMS DRAKE reached port but capsized at 17:00 pm.
At 11:00 am the LUGANO stuck a mine laid by S.M. U 79 on September 24th, 1917. There was just enough time to board the boats and leave the quickly sinking ship. The BRISK was heading to support the rescue operations but struck one of these mines too. The bow section was cut off and sunk whithin seconds. 31 men lost their lifes. The other part of the destroyer remains afloat and was taken to Londonderry.

Hope this helps.

Simon
