Hello David,
Thanks for setting thr record straight with your prompt and informative reply. Ironically, perhaps, the U-boats "got their own back" in 1940, when U-48 sank the 'Empire Merlin' of which Capt. Simpson was master. Only one hand lived to tell the tale.
