Hi Freddy,
There were several steamers with similar names sailing from Harwich to north sea ports and all the german names were presumably considered unpatriotic after war broke out and certainly when the ships were pressed into service. The replacement names were generally 'brave' towns that had suffered in the firing line such as Louvain (Leuven) to replace SS Dresden. Hope that's useful.
