I do not have any info. about the use in WW1, but in the inter-war years it seems to have been regularly used as an anchorage by RN ships, and in the 1930s there were regular 'showing the flag'type visits in the summer; these include -
Sept 1925 - by 5 ships of the 8th Destroyer Flotilla
July 1929 - cruiser Constance
May 1932 - aircraft carrier Furious
May 1932 - aircraft carrier Courageous & cruiser Champion with two drifters
June 1933 - battleships Rodney, Malaya with carrier Courageous and two destroyers
June 1934 - battleship Valiant, battlecruiser Hood with two destroyers
June 1935 - battelships Barham & Valiant, cruisers Orion & Neptune and five destroyers
