Many thanks indeed for your response. Your info is very interesting and helps greatly.
I have a still captured from a very old cine film which purports to show HMS HOOD and HMS BARHAM in Loch Eriboll, almost certainly on one of those visits.
I could send a copy if you let me have your e-mail address.
The mighty HOOD is commemorated by a memorial picked out in stones high on the lochside, together with VALIANT, SWIFT and WHIRLWIND to mention but three, plus the submarine H43.
The memorial is regularly maintained by children from Durness Primary school, where my grandson is a pupil.
