U140 27 July 1918

In the conning tower section, the following should be added to
the Successes of U140. PORTO, Portuguese barque 1079/85,built by
Mcmillan Dumbarton as GARTMORE later became BADEN and Sunk as
Porto on 27.7.18. Kpt/lt Kophamel took about 5 hours to transfer stores
from PORTO before freeing her crew and scuttling her. PORTO was carring
barrel staves and 600 bales of cotton to Oporto from Savannah. She
was the first ship sunk on U140's first and only war patrol.
