Just a little typo first. Read AMBC not AMBB.
This acronym stands for "Armement Militaire des Bâtiments de Commerce" otherwise, Military armament of merchant ships, i.e. the naval staff who were dispatched on board the steamers to serve the guns.
This has nothing to see with the ship's name. It was the name of a special section of staff.
Hoping that clears the question.
