Hello People
I am trying to get to the bottom of this one. Disentangling fact from propaganda is proving a challenge.
Firstly can anyone confirm that U 45(Sittenfeld) did indeed sink Mariston on 15.7.17 at approx 1600.
According to British sources the sole survivor was a cook who apprently witnessed 17 men in the water. One after another they were allegedly eaten by man eating sharks. The U boat surfaced but the skipper did nothing to save these men.
The account does not ring true to me but it is widely reproduced. Can anyone provide some enlightenment from the German side please. I can translate if required.
Thanks
