A friend of mine has already seen the war diary of U 45 and here are the extracts from 15.07.1917:

o5.26
Dampfer mit O-Kurs in Sicht, Vorsetzmanöver
--> steamer in sight steering East, manouvred to overhaul

o6.25
uW-Schuß (G/6 D-Torpedo Nr. 4424) auf 55o m, Treffer hinten. Dampfer (rd. 4ooo t) sinkt sehr schnell, ohne ein Boot zu Wasser zu bringen.
--> underwater-shot (Torpedo type G6 D No. 4424) at 550 metres distance, hit aft, steamer (approx. 4000 tons) sinks very fast, without bringing an boat to the water

Position was 51° o7 N / 11° 53 W
