"The U117 had a long combat on August 20 (1918), with the Italian
steamer ANSALDO III, the steamer escaping after a gun duel that
lasted nearly three hours...."
OUR NAVY AT WAR Josephus Daniels
Lloyds War losses lists the ship as the ANSALDO I. A mistake I believe.
Others sources list 3 crew wounded, several shell hits and one gun
put out of commission. The incident occured at 38 57N; 70 48W at 7 a.m..
Respectfully submitted,
Joe R
