Louise,

If you can go to the UK National Archives in Kew, the references you'll need are as follows:
ADM137/1293. English Channel. German submarines January-June 1917.
ADM137/3980. Particulars of attacks on merchant vessels in home waters.
ADM137/2960. Summary of attack. You'll need to check this reference number when you are at Kew as I can't be sure it is the exact one you want.
BT110/372. Ship Netherton, official number 67267. Registry closed. This will give the ship's full and latest description.
As you may know the Netherton was a sailing vessel of 199 tons.
