<HTML>The only mine-laying submarine ever built by the US was the Argonaut, which was lost in the Pacific to enemy action in WWII.(length, 381ft.) The submarines Narwhal and Nautilus were essentually the same design, but were not mine-layers.(371ft.) They survived the war and were scrapped. The Dolphin was a one-of design that was 319ft long. Everything else the US had was roughly Gato sized or smaller, (311ft.). The only US boat missing in the Atlantic was the Dorado, a Gato class. It is believed sunk in the Caribbean. It is very unlikely that the CA-35 object is a US sub.
The French Sulcouf was about the right size, but is supposed to be sunk in the Caribbean.
If the CA-35 object is a submarine that is 380ft long, it is as likely as not that it is a German type XI. Not very likely, but neither is any other answer.
If this sub does exhist, I suspect that it may have not have been attached to the Kregsmarine. The main use that these monster boats were put to was cargo haulers and troop carriers. The US Narwhal class could carry over 100 troops. I suspect that it would have been a spook boat.
But then, the most likely answer is that they got the length wrong.</HTML>
