<HTML>RSM Macalle' had the dubious honour to be the first of the ninety subs lost by Regia Marina. She ran aground near Barr Musa Chebir Island, Port Sudan on 15 June 1940. Nobody hurt.

The "Macallé" was a Perla class vessel, built in 1936 at Monfalcone (near Trieste) shipyards. Displacement 683 tons when surfaced and 856 in immersion; range 3.180 miles at 10,5 kts (surfaced) and 74 at 4 kts (underwater). Armament: one 100 mm gun, 2 heavy machine guns 13,2 AA and 6 torpedo tubes. Complement 4 officers and 40 ratings.
