my father actually built electro-mechanical parts for all the subs built in Monfalcone shipyards produced from 1935-1943.(C.R.D.A. stands for "Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico" = United Shipbuilders of the Adriatic Sea).
They were pretty secretive in those times with blue collars: actually he was able to match the Navy boats' names with the "hull numbers" he knew only many years after the war. You might find interesting: [www.vittorelli.it]
RSM “Macallé” officers duly destroyed the communication codes and scuttled the boat. The crewmen were sent to India as POWs. Local people soon scavenged the wreck that was finally broken up after the war because in those times steel was still a much sought after raw material.
